The “Not My First Pandemic” Project

I received a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board to write a manuscript about my experiences during the AIDS Crisis that I call “Not My First Pandemic.” This is a story that is told through the lens of living through the recent, my second, pandemic.

Part of this project includes facilitating writing workshops with those of us who lived through both AIDS and the Covid pandemics, particularly the LGBTQA+ community. On June 8 from 2-4 pm, at the Open Book Performance Hall in Minneapolis, I will present a final, public event where I will share my new writing and invite workshop participants to tell their stories.

Everything that I write, and all the stories that I collect, with permission, will be donated to the Tretter LGBTQ Archives at the University of Minnesota for posterity.

We have already had two writing workshops in 2024, and will have additional workshops before June 8 in Mankato, Morris, and Minneapolis. Details for the public event, including writing workshops, are listed on my Events page.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
